CRAIGSLIST - A GREAT PLACE TO ADVERTISE ONLINE

When I first began advertising online I made a LOT of mistakes. Remember when I said I fell down 8 times and got up again and kept trying? Well, that's what I'm referring to.... you see, I ran across a great book that was written by Mike Dillard. It was really by accident. To tell you the truth, I don't even remember how I found it. I guess you could say that it found me.

That book was (and still is...) called 'Building On A Budget'. This book saved me.

Seriously. I was ready to give up years of struggle and frustration and quit network marketing and online marketing forever and ever. Seriously.

If you want to see some free videos about it, go to his BuildingOnABudget page and watch them.

One of the many methods for generating leads online discussed in his book is Craigslist. Eureka! And here I thought all you could do was advertise used baby furniture and cars. Ha!

Craigslist is a powerful internet classified ad site that many internet marketers are totally unaware of. More than likely, there is a Craigslist site in your city or close by.

Here is a screen shot of what a Craigslist site looks like.

The above image shows you the main http://www.craigslist.org site.

Other Craigslist sites, listed by city and country are shown on the right of that page.

Some Facts About Craigslist

Craigslist is a local community classifieds and forums - a place to find jobs, housing, goods & services, social activities, a girlfriend or boyfriend, advice, community information, and just about anything else -- all for free, and in a relatively non-commercial environment.

Craigslist began in early 1995, by Craig Newmark, in San Francisco, California.

Craigslist receives more than 5 billion page views per month. That's not a mis-type.

Craigslist is now #7, of the most visited sites in the world, trailing only yahoo, aol, microsoft, google, ebay, and news corp.

More than 15 million people use Craigslist each month.

More than 12 million new classified ads each month are posted on Craigslist.

More than 750,000 new job listings each month are posted on Craigslist.

Sites are added in response to user request. There are now over 300 craigslist sites in all 50 US states, and over 50 countries.

How to Advertise on Craigslist

Go to http://craigslist.org and select the city or country on the right that you want to advertise in. Start with your home city. Then scroll down near the bottom of the page, and you see the Services section, and Sm Biz Ads (Small Business Ads). This is the only place you can advertise biz opps on Craigslist.

After you click on sm biz ads, the page will open up the a listing of ads. At the top right of the page, you sill see POST. Click on it. Then find small biz ads and click on it.

At this point you may be asked for a specific area, if so, select one.

Now you will enter your Ad. Enter a Posting Title. IMPORTANT: Make this key word sensitive. Meaning, you want to make the title of your ad, a key word phrase that you feel people would search for online. Google and other search engines are very Craigslist Friendly and and your ad could show up in the search results in Google in a little as 2 - 3 days.

In the posting description, enter a good ad. Maybe use your Traffic Swarm ad or your newspaper classified ad.

Now you want to add your link, and you need to make it so it is hyperlinked.

We will be targeting other Network Marketers with our ad, so you will need to use your http://website.ws/gidusername referral id or your http://recruitlikelana.com/r/____/secrets link but that would look terrible, right?

By now you should have registered your own domain like I have. I have a domain name that is http://JoinRichandLana.com

and I also have

http://MakeBigBucksFromHome.com

You should have your own domain like this by now also. If not, go back to Day 7 and find the link to get your own domain name.

If you absolutely refuse to do that, you may get in trouble for spamming (although it's an ad and not spam...) if someone reports you for spamming. GET YOUR OWN NON .WS DOMAIN NAME NOW. I recommend http://GoDaddy.com

To hyperlink your site for ads to Home Business Opportunity Seekers use your RecruitLikeLana.com link or your own domain link. This is how your link should look so it will be hyperlinked in Craigslist if you are using your RecruitLikeLana link:

Free Network Marketing Leads Now, you can copy the above and paste into your Craigslist ad, change "username" to your RecruitLikeLana username and change "Free Network Marketing Leads" to the keyword phrase in your title. This way, the link in your ad will show as simply Free Network Marketing Leads and when the prospect clicks on the lin it will send them to the following site:

http://RecruitLikeLana.com/r/yourusername/secrets/

If you are using your own domain (highly recommended), the link in your ad should look like this:

www.MakeBigBucks FromHome.com

Now enter your email address, and again to confirm, click on Continue, enter the Captcha security code, and your ad is done.

Now, you will have to check your email for an email from Craigslist with a link to click on to confirm your post. Once you click on the link you click on POST.

Your ad will be live on Craigslist in about 15 minutes.

How Long Will Your Ad Stay Active?

Depending on your City selection, your ad will appear on Craigslist for 1 week, up to 1 month. You cannot advertise the same opportunity again in that city with that email until your ad has expired. I made the mistake of doing this in my early days and got in a lot of 'trouble', so don't try to bend the rules. I had no idea that posting the same ad over and over again in different cities would get me in trouble. It did. Stamp my forehead with 'stupid'.

What you can do however, is with a different email address, post another ad with different title and content, in another city. You can do this in maybe 5 - 10 different Craigslist cities every week, using a different title, ad content, use all 3 of your links, and a different email every time. Remember, you are a GDI member, and you can set up up to 10 email address with GDI.

Another great place to post ads is http://BackPage.com This is very simlar to Craigslist, but is targeted more towards college students (I've heard). Hey, college kids need to make money too! :-)

DO NOT SPAM CRAIGSLIST or BACKPAGE - Just a hand full of quality ads every week and you will have great success.
